LA CAMÉRA BRUTALISTE

For Session 9, Pavel Pavlov presents La caméra brutaliste, a project that explores various histories related to the site where the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal was formerly located, at the Cité du Havre. His presentation is an opportunity to discuss the recording devices used to film the surroundings of the museum’s old building and the influence on his work of the production and visual presentation strategies found in minimalism and conceptual art.

Pavel Pavlov holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in art history and visual art from Université Laval and is carrying out post-doctoral studies at McGill University. His work has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions at venues including the Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery (2008), the SBC gallery as part of the Mois de la Photo à Montréal (2009), Optica (2011) and the Canadian Centre for Architecture (2013).
