Session 37 | Stephanie Creaghan

On March 13, 2025 at 7 pm

The Long Measure, or, Treize à la douzaine, is a lecture on the theories of classical dynamics and thermodynamics as applied to the concepts of the Eternal Return and the Will to Chance. Facilitated by a series of “educational” videos, S. E. Creaghan, in the role of the Interlocutor, examines the ways in which select video pieces secrete or absorb matter and energy, the moments they undergo entropy or are subject to what is known as the arrow of time. The overall goal of the Session is to draw chaos out of order, and to consider chance as a conduit to creativity and freedom.

Stephanie Creaghan is a multidisciplinary artist using video, sound, performance, and installation to reveal latent forms of manipulation and address how violence presents itself in communication. Recent shows include CRITÉRIUM OVERDRIVE at Queensway Television (2025, Singapore) and L'archéologie de l'oubli at D.D.D.D. (2025, New York). Their work The Dailies has been presented at Cinémathèque Québécoise and Projet Pangée in Montréal. Creaghan has performed nationally and internationally and completed international residencies in Paris (France), Stolpe/Oder (Germany), New York (USA), and Wexford (Ireland).
