Zinnia Naqvi
Recipient of the PRIM-Dazibao production-dissemination residency
Dazibao and PRIM are pleased to announce that Zinnia Naqvi is the recipient of the 2020-2021 production-dissemination residency. Zinnia Naqvi will be working at PRIM in the coming year where she will produce a new work to be presented at Dazibao in 2021-2022.
Zinnia Naqvi’s work examines issues of colonialism, cultural translation, language, and gender through the use of photography, video, writing, and archival material.
She lives in between Tiohtià:ke/Montreal and Tkaronto/Toronto, and her work has been shown in Canada and internationally. She received an honourable mention at the 2017 Karachi Biennale in Pakistan, and is a recipient of the 2019 New Generation Photography Award organized by the Canadian Photography Institute of the National Gallery of Canada. She is member of EMILIA-AMALIA Working Group, an intergenerational feminist collective. Naqvi holds a BFA in Photography Studies from Ryerson University and an MFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University.
Dazibao receives financial support from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts de Montréal, the ministère de la Culture et des Communications and the Ville de Montréal.
