Erfan Aboutalebi
Yield Point / In the Light of Ornaments
From April 24 to June 12, 2027
Opening on April 24 at 6 pm
Two video sculptures by Erfan Aboutalebi, Yield Point and In the Light of Ornaments, carefully angle and position objects and moving images to distance, disrupt, and skew the viewer's perspective. Foregrounding the growing presence of state violence and institutional silencing in Germany, the artist brings into consideration how the visual systems of control bear down on the capacity and threshold of seeing. As is often done to the truth, images are stretched, straining legibility to the point of failure. In accompaniment, a sound composition by Hanita Firoozmand furthers this tension, plucking and pushing against the taught strings of her instruments. What is the breaking point beyond which there is no recovery?
Erfan Aboutalebi is a multimedia artist and organizer based in Berlin. Recent exhibitions include Kasseler Dokfest (Kassel), nGbK Berlin, BARAZANI.berlin, Museum für Fotografie, and Kreuzberg Pavillon (Berlin), among others. He holds an MFA from the UdK Berlin and a BA in Materials Science from IUST Tehran, and was a Braunschweig Projects fellow and recipient of the Karl Hofer Prize. His work extends into collective organizing across a range of contexts, including co-founding the Shapeshifting Film Festival and programming screenings and events at Raumerweiterungshalle and Flutgraben, two nonprofit cultural associations in Berlin. He co-founded the Subversive Police Museum, a group research and artistic practice around police violence in Berlin.
