Discussion with Michaela Grill
On September 4, 2014 at 7 pm
As a complement to Electronic Sound in a Shifting Landscape Dazibao presents a talk by Michaela Grill, whose works cityscapes (2007) and Hello Again (2006) are currently on view at the gallery.
Conceiving digital format as the most radical form to currently think image and sound, Grill uses software that allows for a total interpenetration of sound and image, where visual elements provide control data for sonic parameters and vice versa. At Dazibao, the artist will be talking about the development of her own work in relation to the specific austrian history of avantgarde film and radical art movements, with a focus on issues of perception, audiovisual relationships in the age of analogue/ digital, as well as issues of abstraction and representation.
Michaela Grill (1971) studied in Vienna, Glasgow and London. Since 1999 she has realized various film and video works, installations and live visuals as well as performances in Austria and abroad. As for many artists of her generation, her work crosses between cinema, nightclub and concert settings. Grill also works at sixpackfilms (Vienna) and regularly performs in Montreal.
