Dazibao is a contemporary art center and non-profit organization dedicated to the dissemination and mediation of contemporary image practices, privileging artistic experimentation, enquiry and reflection related to current social issues. By questioning the discourses, uses and modes of disseminating images, Dazibao explores artistic as well as historical and social issues, sharing them with the various communities that make up Montreal’s diversity.
Dazibao is looking for an artist-collaborator or artist collective, to develop and lead a new outreach project in line with their practice and the center’s mandate. In the past five years, Dazibao’s approach to outreach has favored long-term engagement with communities or groups of participants while upholding a commitment to rigorous artistic image-based practice.

The project proposal should include:
Description of project (500-1000 words)
Describe the artist’s practice and it’s relationship to the project;
Consider the needs and context of the community or participants to be involved, as well as how to reach them;
Consider and describe the formal or artistic outcome of the project;
Describe the timeline and context of the project.

Visual material: Please compile the following information and documents into a single PDF. The total weight of the PDF should not exceed 20 MB. The visual material provided must consist of works from the last 5 years.
Up to 15 images and/or 5 minutes of video;
Images must be clearly labeled with title, material, size/duration, year, and if applicable, the location of the work;
For videos, only links will be accepted and not those requiring downloading. It is the artist's responsibility to ensure that video links work and that the passwords provided are correct. Please do not provide links that will expire.
Artist resume (maximum 3 pages)
The project must take place in Montreal. Support for the project will be funding-pending.

Only proposals submitted via the online form will be considered. Results are communicated within six months. Due to a high volume of submissions, only those artists whose projects have been selected will be contacted. We recognize that the preparation of a proposal requires a considerable amount of work, and we are grateful to all the artists who share their research with us.
An advisory programming committee contributes to the development of Dazibao’s programming.
Dazibao invites submissions from emerging, mid-career, and established artists. Dazibao encourages diversity and inclusivity, and invites submissions from artists self-identifying as members of a minority. Dazibao’s artist fees are based on CARFAC standards.
Dazibao receives financial support from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts de Montréal, the ministère de la Culture et des Communications and the Ville de Montréal.
Dazibao acknowledges that it is located on the unceded territory of the Kanien'kehá: ka Nation and that Tiohtiá:ke / Montreal is historically known as a gathering place for many First Nations, and today, is home to a diverse population of Indigenous as well as other peoples. Guided by ethics of respect, listening, and awareness, Dazibao commits to a continued reflection regarding the deep-rooted and systemic challenges tied to accessibility and inclusivity in the arts and beyond, and endeavors to apply such reflections to all aspects of its activities and governance.
