Call for projects

Dazibao is an exhibition centre dedicated to the dissemination and mediation of contemporary image-based practices. It supports research, experimentation, and critical reflection by giving a platform to artistic practices grounded in contemporary social issues. Its programming brings together works from local, national and international artists.

In the context of Dazibao’s open call for exhibition projects, artists, collectives and curators are invited to propose projects for one of the following programming components:

→ exhibitions in the gallery space;

→ projects in the screening room;

→ events as part of its Sessions;

→ public outreach initiatives.

Founded on contemporary image practices, Dazibao’s programming favours artistic approaches that reflect upon the effect and role of contemporary images in today’s society, and the constant transformations they undergo. Projects are evaluated based on artistic rigour, how they resonate with the centre's mandate and their potential contribution to today’s social discourses.

This call is not tied to a specific programming year. Dazibao’s programming is developed with the support of an advisory committee and is composed of both projects submitted to our annual call for proposals and projects developed by the centre.

Submission requirements

· Artist statement (250 words)
· Project description (500 words)
· Artist CV (maximum 3 pages)

· Visual material including up to 15 images and/or 5 minutes of video. This should include images of past and present works, and/or of the proposed project. 

• Images: JPEG or PNG format, maximum size of 1 MB each. Please number and name the files.

• Video: Only web links will be accepted (Vimeo, YouTube, Google Drive, website, etc.). The artist is responsible for ensuring that the links are functional and that any passwords are valid. Do not use links that will expire or that require a subscription.

· A descriptive list of visual material (in PDF format). For each of the works presented, please indicate: title, date, medium(s), dimensions, duration, place of presentation, etc. Password-protected video links must also be included. Please do not add more written information on the works.

This call is limited to one proposal per person. Only proposals submitted via the online form will be considered.

Results are communicated within six months. Due to the high number of proposals we receive, we are unfortunately unable to offer individualized feedback. We recognize that the preparation of a proposal requires a considerable amount of work, and we are grateful to all who share their research with us.

Dazibao is an attentive and receptive space, where inclusivity is a priority and as are the principles of accessibility, equity, gender parity, and diversity. As such, the centre invites artists, collectives and curators at all career stages, as well as self-identifying members of a minority, to submit a project. Dazibao’s artist fees are based on CARFAC recommendations.
