Brilliantly blue in colour, the European Roller is a bird with a curious history: Since inexplicably abandoning its habitat in Sweden in the late 1960s, great efforts have been made by scientists to reintroduce the species into the local landscape – but in vain.

Through their installation Searching for the European Roller, the Swedish artist duo Hillside Projects (Emily Mennerdahl & Jonas Böttern) critically and humorously challenge this drive towards reintegration, extending the case study of the Roller into a broader social metaphor for issues of migration and authority.

Join us on 9 December for a screening of the work followed by a group discussion surrounding privilege and power in an era of “fake news” and “alternative facts.”
